The project seeks to reinforce food security through a multipronged approach while improving economic opportunities for local communities.

In Cameroon, 11% of the population faces acute food insecurity. Insecurity is most often found in the three northern regions, which represent the Sahelian zone of the country and include Mayo-Banyo, a department of Cameroon located on the western border with Nigeria. In these vulnerable areas, the climate crisis has destructive and conflict-provoking effects due to the scarcity of resources like water, which have diminished due to climate, deforestation and the disappearance of species.

Since the start of the project in January 2024, numerous activities have already been carried out. In addition to co-financing from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Fondation Chance MBD over a period of three years, local communities must also invest financially in the success of the project beyond their contributions and investments of time.

This project has a multipronged approach, from the creation of different nurseries for forest management, the development of beekeeping activities, the establishment of an infrastructure for plastic waste management, and an awareness-raising campaign for sustainable management of forest ecosystems. The continued mobilization of local populations is ensured by the association Graine de Vie Luxembourg and its collaborators in Cameroon.
