Providing Access to Education Through Friendship’s Literacy Program for Adults and Adolescents

Providing Access to Education Through Friendship’s Adult and Adolescent Literacy Program

This project offers an opportunity for individuals who have never had access to education to learn the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

The goal is to bring education to underserved populations in the most disadvantaged regions of Bangladesh. Better education leads to greater prosperity, improved health outcomes, reduced violence, increased gender equality, and a healthier natural environment.

The program focuses not only on literacy but also on awareness-raising, training, and income-generating opportunities for the most vulnerable families.

Teachers are required to complete a 6-day training course before they begin teaching. In addition, all 73 teachers participate in quarterly refresher training sessions, which provide space for peer exchange and lesson preparation for the upcoming term.

Notably, in 2017, 100% of the participants were women!

Thanks to the Adult Literacy Program, the Nurturing Dignity Foundation is successfully filling educational gaps in the most remote areas of Bangladesh. The program empowers individuals to take control of their lives and improves family well-being through education, training, and employment opportunities.
