With the release of its 2025 Annual Report, the Fondation de Luxembourg celebrates another record level of distributions.

In a year marked by geopolitical instability, ongoing conflicts and tightening funding for humanitarian causes, the Fondation de Luxembourg achieved a new record in philanthropic giving in 2025, distributing € 13.6 million to 300 beneficiaries in 57 countries, bringing total amount of grants awarded since its creation to €100 million.

This milestone reflects the Fondation de Luxembourg’s continued commitment to advancing philanthropy and its active role in promoting structured philanthropy in Luxembourg, at a time when interest in strategic, long-term philanthropy continues to grow.

2025 highlights:

  • Record €13.6 million distributed in 2025
  • Total grants surpasses €100 million milestone since inception
  • Committed assets reach €437 million, up 16 %
  • 126 foundations created since inception, including 7 created in 2025
  • Nearly 300 organizations supported in 57 countries across four continents

The Fondation de Luxembourg’s record level of distribution last year underscore the continued commitment of its donors to delivering impactful support in response to evolving global challenges.

The Fondation de Luxembourg maintained strong momentum throughout the year, with the number of foundations under its aegis rising to 126, representing €437 million in committed assets dedicated to philanthropic initiatives. In 2025, these foundations supported projects across five key areas of action: poverty reduction and social cohesion, health and research, biodiversity and climate change, universal education, and culture and diversity.

Fondation de Luxembourg’s Chairman Alain Kinsch stated:  “Luxembourg continues to provide a strong and stable environment for structured philanthropy. The sustained growth we are seeing reflects the trust placed in the Fondation de Luxembourg and highlights the important role the country plays in supporting both local initiatives and international solidarity.”

The most significant increase in contributions in 2025 was directed towards health and research, which rose by 60% from 31.9% of total funding in 2024 to 42.1% in 2025. Universal education remained the second-largest area of support, followed by poverty and social cohesion, culture and diversity, and biodiversity and climate change.

Meanwhile, the Fondation de Luxembourg also maintained a strong local impact. More than half of all funding was directed to projects within the Grand Duchy, and over 60% of founders are Luxembourg residents. The Fondation continued to work closely with the local financial ecosystem and civil society, organizing and participating in numerous events and initiatives to  promote structured philanthropy. Moreover, the Fondation pour le Climat, launched in 2024 to accompany companies wishing to finance high-impact environmental projects, continued to attract new corporate donors.

While maintaining this strong local anchoring, the Fondation also facilitated international giving at scale, with projects supported in 57 countries across four continents. In 2025, 77.7% of funding was directed to Europe, reflecting a slight increase compared to 2024. Foundations under its aegis continued to respond to pressing global challenges, including sustained support for Ukraine and emergency aid efforts in Gaza, alongside longer-term initiatives addressing structural issues.

Director General Tonika Hirdman commented: “2025 has shown that philanthropy is not only resilient, but increasingly strategic in how it responds to today’s challenges. The record level of support reached this year reflects our donors’ ability to act both swiftly and with long-term intent  addressing urgent crises while continuing to invest in sustainable solutions for the future.”

Looking ahead, the Fondation de Luxembourg will continue to expand its activities, having already established three new foundations in early 2026. It will continue to guide and accompany donors across both local and international initiatives, while further consolidating its role within the Luxembourg and European philanthropic landscape. The Fondation also aims to strengthen cross-border giving and partnerships, reinforcing its position as a key facilitator of effective and impactful philanthropy.
