The aim of the grant is to support archaeological research in Luxembourg in the form of scientific research, archaeological excavations or other work, as well as to support projects to promote or popularise an archaeological project taking place in Luxembourg.
Launched in 2023 by the Schleich-Lentz Foundation in partnership with Focuna, the grant is aimed at students, doctoral students, researchers or associations working on archaeological research and/or promotion projects in Luxembourg.
Following a call for projects, an independent jury from Luxembourg's cultural sector assesses the applications according to pre-established criteria. The jury then proposes to the Management Committee of the Schleich-Lentz Foundation the successful candidate for the award of the grant on the basis of the assessment criteria.
In 2023, the successful candidate is :
The Société Préhistorique Luxembourgeoise a.s.b.l. for its research project entitled, ‘L'impact des activités humaines sur le paysage au Néolithique (5300-2000 avant notre ère). A study prototype for the Beaufort - Ermsdorf - Medernach - Waldbillig region’.
In congratulating the winner for 2023, the jury emphasised that this project ‘brings together a number of players, including professionals from the sector, volunteers and trainees. By analysing private collections, it will be possible to carry out a regional study of the impact of human activity on the landscape in the Neolithic period, and to promote the work of volunteers in Luxembourg’.
