The Porcelain Cabinet, based on a design by scenographer Jérôme Dumoux (with the colour since changed to a deep burgundy silk taffeta), is located in what was formerly the Buffet Room, later transformed into a Billiard Room, and left unoccupied for many years. The creation of this cabinet now allows for the display of collections that had until then been kept in storage and were inaccessible to the general public.
In his opening remarks, Philippe Champy recalled that in championing this project, he was merely fulfilling a dream once shared with him by Marie-Laure de Rochebrune, Chief Curator in charge of the Porcelain collection. She went on to present pieces from Vincennes-Sèvres, originally part of the royal services of Louis XV and Louis XVI, which the museum has been reacquiring over several decades. Christian Baulez, who played a major role in these acquisitions, was in attendance, as was Olivier de Rohan, former president of the Friends of Versailles, who helped finance many of these purchases.
This achievement is expected to be followed by the publication of a book on royal porcelain services, authored by Marie-Laure de Rochebrune. The Fondation La Marck has committed to supporting the publication of this work.
