In keeping with its ambition to be a major player in the European philanthropic sector, on 13 January 2023 the Fondation de Luxembourg, the umbrella foundation set up by the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte and the Luxembourg State, received official confirmation from the relevant authorities that it had been recognised for a second time as a Fondation reconnue d'utilité publique (FRUP) by the French State.
Tonika Hirdman, Director General of the Fondation de Luxembourg, said: ‘This is a reward for our efforts to facilitate the exchange of donations and legacies for French residents wishing to commit themselves to a cause of general interest through a foundation sheltered in Luxembourg’.
The decision by the French authorities is based on article 795-0 A of the General Tax Code, which states that the tax exemptions available to French foundations apply to similar organisations located in a Member State of the European Union when these organisations have received tax approval in France.
