Recap of the Philanthropy Adviser Event – October 2, 2018

The Fondation de Luxembourg regularly organizes its Philanthropy Adviser Events, bringing together wealth managers and advisors from the Luxembourg financial sector to share current developments and best practices in philanthropy, and to encourage them to raise awareness among their clients.

In this context, a conference was held on October 2 at the Cercle Munster, featuring Bathylle Missika, Head of Division for Network, Partnerships, and Gender at the OECD Development Centre, who spoke on the topic of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Her presentation addressed key questions: To what extent can philanthropists contribute to achieving the SDGs? What is the weight of philanthropy in areas such as health and education? Using key data compiled by the OECD on the philanthropic sector, Bathylle Missika highlighted the relevance of this global framework, while also pointing out its limitations—including its complexity, lack of universality, and the fact that inequality, a major societal challenge, is covered by only one SDG (Goal 10).

In the second part of the event, Petra Penders, Project Manager at the Fondation de Luxembourg, illustrated how the Foundation has integrated the SDGs into its day-to-day work, particularly in the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of projects supported by the hosted foundations.

Through concrete examples such as the Fondation Linckels-Voss and its project to build university dormitories for Indigenous students in Brazil, and the Fondation ESPOIR, which is committed to eradicating female genital mutilation in Ethiopia, the Fondation de Luxembourg demonstrates its commitment to anchoring its actions within a global and strategic framework designed to maximize and highlight their impact.
