January 17, 2025 – Spuerkeess Partners with the Fondation pour le Climat
The Fondation de Luxembourg, an independent center for philanthropy expertise and advisory, launched the Fondation for Climate in 2024 under its aegis. Dedicated to combating climate change and preserving biodiversity, the Fondation for Climate supports corporate donors wishing to fund local projects with tangible environmental impact. Each project is reviewed by a scientific expert committee to ensure alignment with environmental priorities and to help contribute to Luxembourg’s ecological transition goals.
“The Fondation de Luxembourg welcomes this new partnership with Spuerkeess, a key player in the country’s economic development. Their concrete commitment reaffirms that businesses play an essential role in climate transition. Through the Fondation for Climate, we strive to offer companies a simple and impactful way to act for the environment and strengthen their local impact.”
— Tonika Hirdman, Director General of the Fondation de Luxembourg
The first project supported by Spuerkeess is “SMART regio” (Sustainability Monitoring and Assessment RouTine), led by the Institut fir Biologesch Landwirtschaft an Agrarökologie Luxemburg (IBLA).
“Spuerkeess fully embraces its role as a Transition Enabler, helping not only individual clients but especially businesses adopt more sustainable practices to combat global warming. The Fondation for Climate brings together a wide range of actors around this common goal. It was only natural for Spuerkeess to get involved. We chose the IBLA project because we expect concrete, actionable outcomes for local agriculture.”
— Françoise Thoma, CEO of Spuerkeess
The project aims to raise awareness among farmers and consumers about agricultural practices that preserve natural habitats, and to support the agricultural sector in transitioning to more sustainable methods. With roughly half of Luxembourg’s total land area used for agriculture, it is crucial to guide farmers toward climate-conscious practices. Even minor changes can make a significant contribution to the preservation of biodiversity, water resources, and soil quality.
