Established in 2002 under the will of the late Anita van Werveke-Hanno, the Auguste van Werveke-Hanno Foundation awards scholarships to students from Luxembourg or resident in Luxembourg pursuing studies in architecture or the fine arts. It was established in memory of the founder's father, Auguste van Werveke-Hanno, who taught drawing at the École d'artisans de l'État. In July 2021, the Foundation was transformed into a sheltered foundation under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg, which is now responsible for its administrative and financial management.
The scholarships, which currently amount to 5,000 euros, are awarded annually on the basis of the quality of the portfolio submitted, the extracurricular activities and motivation of the candidate, academic results in their field of study and progress in studies. Individual interviews are held with candidates who have passed the initial selection stage.
The winners for the 2024-2025 academic year are Lara Schmitz in architecture and Gilles Schneider and Ugur Darya Eroglu in fine arts. At the ceremony, each of the winners was invited to take the floor to explain their background, current projects and how the scholarship will support the continuation of their studies or professional career.
