Mr Léon Diederich, Ismail Assi, Minister Stéphanie Obertin, Joseph Siebenaler, Célian Dewasmes, Ramzi Shadid, Florian Hertweck, Paula de Vaugelas.
Established in 2002 under the will of the late Anita van Werveke-Hanno, the Auguste van Werveke-Hanno Foundation awards grants to students from Luxembourg or living in Luxembourg who are studying architecture or fine arts. It was established in memory of the founder's father, Auguste van Werveke-Hanno, who taught drawing at the École d'artisans de l'État. In July 2021, the Foundation became a sheltered foundation of the Fondation de Luxembourg, which is now responsible for its administrative and financial management.
The scholarships, which currently amount to 5,000 euros, are awarded annually on the basis of the quality of the portfolio submitted, the extracurricular activities and motivation of the applicant, academic results in their field of study and progress in their studies. Individual interviews are held with candidates who have passed the initial selection stage.
The winners for the 2023/2024 academic year are Célian Dewasmes, a fine arts student, Ramzi Shadid, an architecture student, and Joseph Siebenaler, an architecture student (urban planning). At the ceremony, each of the winners was invited to take the floor to explain his or her background, current projects and how the scholarship will support the continuation of his or her studies or professional career.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity to unveil the new visual identity of the Auguste van Werveke-Hanno Foundation: a logo designed by Ismail Assi as part of a competition for young graphic designers organised by the Foundation.
